Babucarr Manka
Babucarr Manka is a Gambian documentary filmmaker, screenwriter and creative director celebrated for his emotionally driven, socially conscious storytelling. With over 15 years in film and media, he has created award-winning work addressing migration, identity, human rights and social justice — earning wide respect in The Gambia and internationally for his contribution to African cinema.
Since 2009 he has served as Creative Director at State of Mic Multimedia, one of the Gambia's foremost audiovisual production companies — overseeing the conceptualisation, directing and production of documentaries, TV programmes and commercials, and coordinating partnerships with broadcasters and NGOs worldwide.
His work includes Gifts from Babylon (2018), a multi-award-winning fiction film screened in over 100 countries and winner of more than 28 international awards, and the documentaries Home Again (2022) and Gods of the Sea (2025). A Durban Talents alumnus and Global Media Makers and American Film Showcase Fellow, he continues to champion authentic African storytelling on the international stage.
